Apple Using Tencent’s Safe Browsing for Malicious Website Warnings in Safari on iOS 13 Which Logs IPs

Apple has primarily always relied on Google’s Safe Browsing technology for Safari’s ‘Fraudulent Website Warning’ feature. However, it seems that starting with iOS 13, Apple is using Tencent’s Safe Browsing technology as well to check and prevent users from visiting fraudulent websites.

The problem here is that for the fraudulent website warning to work, Apple needs to share your browsing history with Google. And Tencent. While the URLs shared are generally hashed, Google and Tencent will also log a user’s IP address during the process. Many people might be fine sharing their browsing history with Google, but sharing anything with a Chinese company might make many users uncomfortable.

Below is how Google’s Update API for the Safe Browsing tech works in the background:

To address these concerns, Google quickly came up with a safer approach to, um, “safe browsing”. The new approach was called the “Update API”, and it works like this:

Google first computes the SHA256 hash of each unsafe URL in its database, and truncates each hash down to a 32-bit prefix to save space.

Google sends the database of truncated hashes down to your browser.

Each time you visit a URL, your browser hashes it and checks if its 32-bit prefix is contained in your local database.

If the prefix is found in the browser’s local copy, your browser now sends the prefix to Google’s servers, which ship back a list of all full 256-bit hashes of the matching URLs, so your browser can check for an exact match.

At each of these requests, Google’s servers see your IP address, as well as other identifying information such as database state. It’s also possible that Google may drop a cookie into your browser during some of these requests.Tips:

Another major issue here is that Apple has made this change without informing users about it. One has to go through the fine print to discover it. There is a possibility that Apple is using Tencent’s Safe Browsing tech only for Mainland China users since Google is not available in the region, but if that’s the case, the warning should not show up for iPhone users in the United States. Additionally, if Apple has made this change recently with iOS 13, it should have explicitly informed users about it. The company has also not detailed if it is doing anything to protect the privacy of its users in this scenario which has always been one of its priorities.

Apple has bent a lot of its own rules just to please the Chinese government. While that is not the case here, many iOS users are simply not going to be comfortable knowing that a Chinese company is possibly logging their IP.Also Read:Download All iCloud Photos to PC/Mac

2020 iPhones to Feature a Smaller Notch

If the latest investor note of reputed and reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is to be believed, Apple will reduce the size of the notch on its 2020 iPhones. The company is planning on using a smaller front camera system for the 2020 iPhones which would help reduce the size of the notch and increase the screen-to-bezel ratio.

Additionally, the analyst believes that Apple will be using a 7P lens for the rear camera of the 2020 iPhones. This should help improve the overall image quality, though the margin of improvement will depend on the quality of the lens used.

The report also claims that by 2021, Apple will get rid of the notch completely and instead switch to in-display fingerprint technology. This seems a bit odd as Apple has invested heavily in its TrueDepth camera system and a number of features in iOS rely on it. However, for Apple to release a truly notch-less iPhone, it would have to come up with a breakthrough technology to hide the TrueDepth camera components below the display.

A number of Chinese Android OEMs have already started releasing phones without a notch using novel tech like pop-up camera, flip camera, and more. Once the in-display camera technology is ready, most major OEMs will jump on the bandwagon to release true full-view smartphones.

The reduction of the notch would mean that the 2020 iPhones would feature a new design. This is something that other rumors have also claimed regarding the 2020 iPhones. The company is expected to refresh its iPhone lineup in 2020 with new display sizes and switch entirely to OLED displays. It is also expected to launch at least two iPhone variants with 5G. Given such major changes, it is almost a given that the 2020 iPhones will feature a new external design.

It looks like the 2020 iPhone lineup is shaping up to be a major release with some major external changes. Are you looking forward to its release?

How to Download Files Using Safari on iPhone and iPad

Dreams do come true. Well, at least if wildest imagination is limited to download large files on your iPhone or iPad using Safari. Well, in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 you can actually do that. Safari now has a built-in download manager where it lets you download files straight to the local storage (or iCloud Drive). Here’s how you can use this feature to download files in Safari on iOS 13 and iPadOS 13.
Safari Download Manager in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13: Everything You Need to Know

As with many features in iOS, the download manager in Safari is hidden until it’s conjured (or called up). Unlike Safari on the Mac, you won’t find a download button in the top toolbar.

Step 1: Go to a page which contains the download link and tap on it.

Step 2: You’ll see a popup asking if you want to download the file (you’ll see the full name of the file but you won’t see the file size). Here, click on the Download button.

Step 3: Now, you’ll see a new Downloads icon in the top-right corner of the Safari app, next to the URL field. Tap on it and you’ll see all available downloads. And yes, you can download multiple files at the same time.

Step 4: From here, you can see the progress of the download. You’ll be able to see the file size, but it won’t show the download speed. If you want to stop or pause the download, you can tap on the X icon. If a paused download can be resumed, you’ll see the Resume button as well.

Step 5: To delete a download, swipe left on it and tap on the Delete button.

Step 6: Once the download is finished, you’ll be able to tap on the file to open it in the Files app. And once you can see it in the Files app, you can preview it or open it if it’s in a supported format (MP3, PDF, Images and so on). And if not, you can tap on the Share button to open it in a compatible app.

This means that you can now download any file in Safari, without the need for a third party download manager and then you can use Files to open the file in any supported app. For example, you can download a DOCX file from an online source and then open it in World app via Files. And now that Files app supports external storage in both iPhone and iPad, you can actually transfer a downloaded file to a flash drive (this even works for sending books to Kindle).
How to Change Safari’s Download Folder on iPhone and iPad

Once you start using the download manager, the first thing you’ll want to do is to change the default download location. By default, every download goes directly to a Downloads folder in iCloud Drive. Now that’s great if you’re on a 50GB or 200GB plan. All your downloads will be available across all your Apple devices.

But if you’re on the free 5GB plan, a couple of downloads will take a major hit to your available space.

It’s best to change the download location to a local folder on your iPhone and iPad (And finally it’s great that Apple not only lets you choose local storage as a downloading location, it also lets you create and move folders in local storage).

To change the download location, go to Settings > Downloads (in General section) > On my iPhone. This will switch to a Downloads folder on your local iPhone or iPad. But you can go a step further and change this location as well by going to the Other option.
How to Download Links Without Opening Them on iPhone/iPad

If you don’t like waiting till the link opens in a new tab, you can actually skip the whole process thanks to the new Peek feature that’s available across all iOS devices now. Just tap and hold on the link and select the Download Linked File button. This will start the download process in the background.
Yes, This Works for Large Downloads in the Background

You can even download files that are a couple of gigabytes on your iPhone or iPad using this feature. This works even in the background, with the iPhone locked and with the screen off. This is something you couldn’t do previously using third-party apps.

I tested this using a 2GB iOS 13 beta file from Apple’s servers and the process was slow at the start but after a couple of minutes, it completed the while 2GB download in the background, on its own.

How to Create a Custom iMessage Profile in iOS 13

In iOS 13, Apple allows you to create a standardized iMessage profile that includes your name and photo – or an Animoji/Memoji – which accompanies the messages you send to friends so that they know who you are.

The idea behind the new feature is that contacts in the Messages become more easily identifiable, similar to the way WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger contacts have recognizable profile pictures.

If you choose to use a Memoji as your profile pic, you'll be happy to learn that iOS 13 also provides options for customizing it, including pre-selected poses and background colors.

How to Add a Custom Message Photo Profile in iOS 13

Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

Tap Messages.

Tap Share Name and Photo.

To use a photo in your new profile, tap the Camera button and take a picture of yourself. Alternatively, tap All Photos to choose an existing picture from your photo albums.

Once you've selected a picture, you'll be given the option to move and scale it in the circular frame. Click Choose once you're done.

You'll then be asked to select a filter to apply to the photo. Alternatively, tap Original to skip this step.

Tap Done.

Tap the empty fields alongside your profile picture to enter your first and second name.

Make sure the Share Name and Photo switch is toggled to the On position.

Choose from one of the automatic contact sharing options – Contacts Only, Always Ask, or Anyone.

How to Improve and Boost Finder Performance on Mac

Why Finder Loads Slowly on Mac

On Mac, new windows in the file system default to opening into the "All My Files" view. Every time you open the Finder on Mac, "All My Files" will load every personal file into this folder. Finder can actively search the file system for every document, picture, and media file owned by the active user account. Sometimes, the number of files in this folder can easily reach to 50,000+ items shown within a single folder which is updating live upon every modification of the file system. If you have a lot of space for these files, this will have little impact on system performance. Usually those with fewer available resources are the ones to notice the CPU spiking and slow refreshing of Finder windows and folders in OS X.

Note: If you just get a new Mac, you may want to transfer files from Windows to Mac. Click to see this post and you will find it quite easy.
How to Improve Finder Performance on Mac

Once you find a sluggish Mac Finder, there are 3 you could do to improve the Finder performance.
Solution 1: Quit Defaulting to Opening New Windows into "All My Files"

As OS X default to openning new Finder windows into "All My Files" since Mountain Lion, you need to change this and launch a new window into anything else. This can be done from the Home directory, which was the default in OS X for ages, the Desktop, or a folder that you chosed.

1. From the Finder, drag down the "Finder" window and choose "Finder Preferences".

2. Under the "General" tab pull down the menu under "new Finder windows show:" and select the new default window destination.

This will speed up your Mac as your Mac will not need to refresh every user file all the time. The window now only shows what's in the User Home directory, or elsewhere.
Solution 2: Use All My Files Selectively

This means that you use "All My Files" only when it's needed. The simplest way to do this by selecting it from the Finder window sidebar, suppose when you want to get to your recently opened files. By doing this you'll only experience the (potentially) sluggish All My Files searching and redrawing when you want to, not every time you're in the file system.

Solution 3: Close All My Files Windows When Not Use

After using Finder, remember to close the folder. This is because All My Files is not your average static folder, leaving it open could make contents redraw every time a user owned file is modified, copied, downloaded, or created, and that can cause CPU spikes and create substantial performance reduction if it's just sitting there refreshing itself in the background while you doing other stuff on your Mac.

How to Change the Name of Your iPhone

When you set up a new iPhone, iOS gives the handset a generic name that includes the first name of the owner – "Tim's iPhone," for example. This default name is used for identifying the device when you plug it into a computer, when someone wants to AirDrop file to you, or when you set up a Personal Hotspot. But there are good reasons why you might want to change it.

If the iOS network settings are ever reset, the phone's name is changed to "iPhone," making it harder to identify amongst a list of surrounding devices. Or maybe the handset you're using still has the name of the previous owner. Perhaps you just want to give your iPhone a recognizable but less personally identifying moniker for privacy reasons.

Whatever the reason, here's how to change the name of your iPhone (the following steps will work for iPads, too).

Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

Tap General.

Tap About.

Tap Name.

Enter the name that you'd like your iOS device to take.

Tap Done.

The name of your iPhone has now been changed, so you should see the change reflected wherever your device's name is used. Also Read:10 Websites to Watch Indian Live Television

Apple Now Prioritizing MacBook Keyboard Repairs With Quoted Next-Day Turnaround Time

Apple has indicated that most MacBook and MacBook Pro keyboard repairs will be required to be completed at Apple Stores until further notice, rather than being shipped to an off-site Apple repair center, according to an internal memo shared with Apple Store employees last week and obtained by MacRumors.

Apple's memo, titled "How to support Mac customers with keyboard-related repairs in store," advises Genius Bar technicians that these keyboard repairs should be "prioritized to provide next-day turnaround time":

Most keyboard-related repairs will be required to be completed in store until further notice. Additional service parts have been shipped to stores to support the increased volume.

These repairs should be prioritized to provide next-day turnaround time. When completing the repair, have the appropriate service guide open and carefully follow all repair steps.

Apple did not provide a reason for this change, but the company is known for customer satisfaction, so it could be trying to speed up the process a bit to alleviate frustration.

The turnaround time for MacBook and MacBook Pro repairs shipped to Apple's off-site facilities has typically ranged between three to five business days, and sometimes longer, so next-day turnaround would be much more convenient for customers if Genius Bars can actually fulfill that ambitious timeframe.

Shortly after the 2015 MacBook and 2016 MacBook Pro were released with lower-profile butterfly mechanism keyboards, complaints began to emerge about "sticky" keys causing repeating letters and other inconsistent behavior during routine use. In more severe cases, keys pop out of position or stop working altogether.

Following a few years of anecdotal complaints, and no less than three lawsuits, Apple finally initiated a worldwide service program offering free repairs of 12-inch MacBookmodels released between 2015 and 2017 and MacBook Pro models released in 2016 and 2017 for customers with expired warranty coverage.

That program remains in effect, but Apple has yet to extend free repairs to the still-under-warranty 2018 MacBook Pro or 2018 MacBook Air, which are still prone to keyboard issues to a lesser extent – despite both having third-generation butterfly keyboards with a silicone membrane designed to mitigate the issues.

2018 MacBook Pro keyboard with silicone membrane via iFixit

The Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern recently brought some attention to the continued keyboard issues, prompting Apple to apologize:

We are aware that a small number of users are having issues with their third-generation butterfly keyboard and for that we are sorry. The vast majority of Mac notebook customers are having a positive experience with the new keyboard.

Affected customers should visit Apple's Get Support page to book an appointment with a Genius Bar or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, who are also authorized to complete free repairs under Apple's service program.Sponsor ads:

Apple Spending Millions of Dollars To Secure New Games for Apple Arcade

A Financial Times report highlights that Apple is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to secure new games for its Arcade gaming subscription service. Apple had unveiled Arcade at its March ‘Show Time’ event, with the service slated to launch later this year.

Apple Arcade is slated to launch with over 100 games and Apple will likely spend over $500 million on them. The advance given by Apple to game title developers is more than enough to cover their game development cost.

Apple is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to secure new video games for its forthcoming Arcade subscription service, according to several people familiar with the deals.

The company is also offering developers extra incentives if they keep their game exclusive to Arcade and don’t release it on any other platform like Google Play or Xbox Game Pass. The exclusivity will only be for a few months though and after that, they will be free to release their games on any platform they want.

With Apple Arcade, the Cupertino company wants to offer a subscription-based gaming service to its iPhone, iPad, and macOS customers. These high-quality games will have a rich storyline and will be completely devoid of IAPs and ads. These games will also work be compatible with all devices within Apple’s ecosystem and sync their progress across devices meaning one can start playing a game on their iPhone and then resume it on their iPad or Mac.
Our Take

While Apple unveiled Arcade at its Showtime event, it did not mention anything about its pricing. The gaming subscription service is likely to cost anywhere around $7.99 to $9.99/month. With hardware sales slowing down, Apple is heavily focusing on the services sector. Apple Arcade will get its own tab in the iOS App Store which means it should catch the eyesight of millions of people around the world.

Gmail Gains Email Scheduling; Smart Compose Feature Coming to iOS

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Gmail, Google today announced some new features that are soon going to make its way to the service. Google first debuted Smart Compose in Gmail with the Pixel 3 last year and recently expanded it to include some Android devices. Now, the company has announced that it is bringing Smart Compose to more languages — Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese and expanding it to more devices.

Additionally, Google is expanding Smart Compose to more Android devices and the feature will make its way to iOS soon as well. The feature itself is also getting smarter and will now offer personalized suggestions depending on your typing style and history. It will also be capable of suggesting a subject line for an email depending on the content you have written.

Secondly, Google is adding email scheduling to Gmail. This means you can schedule an email to send it at a later date and time. If you work in a team that’s spread across multiple timezones, this feature is going to be a boon for you.

Lastly, you will be able to directly reply to a comment thread in Google Docs right from within an email in Gmail. You will also be able to browse hotel recommendations and more right from within the email instead of opening a new tab.

Google has been rolling out major features to Gmail since last year itself. The web version of the service got a major redesign last year, with Google rolling out a redesigned Gmail for iOS app last month.
We Want to Hear From You

Do you use Gmail as your primary mail service? Have you tried its Smart Compose feature on the web? If yes, are you glad that it is making its way to the iOS version as well? Or will you stick to your existing mail app?

How to Use an eSIM to Set Up Your Cellular Plan 2019

The iPhone Xs, Xs Max, and XR have Dual SIM cards, which includes a nano-SIM and an eSIM. The eSIM is a digital SIM that allows your phone to have a second active cell plan from your carrier. Essentially, your phone will have two phone numbers. This is great if you want a business number separate from your personal number or are traveling out of the country and want to get a phone number from a local carrier without swapping out the physical SIM. Typically this feature only works with iOS 12.1 and later with a few carriers in the US. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile currently support this feature with varying restrictions. Check with your carrier to understand how you can best use eSIM with your device. Below, I'll give a general overview of how to set up an eSIM.

Master your iPhone in one minute a day:

Sign up to iPhone Life's Tip of the Day Newsletter and we'll send you a tip each day to save time and get the most out of your iPhone or iPad.
Setting Up a Cellular Plan with eSIM

The nano-SIM in your device will be used for one cellular plan while the other cellular plan will use the eSIM. If your carrier allows, an eSIM can serve as your only cellular plan if you don't have a nano-SIM.

To activate the second cellular plan, you can do one of the following:
Scan the QR Code Your Carrier Provided:

Open Settings and tap Cellular.

Tap Add Cellular Plan.

Scan the QR code that your carrier provided with your iPhone.

To activate the eSIM, you might have to enter a confirmation code, which your carrier should provide.
Manually Enter the Information:

On the screen to scan the QR code, you can select to enter details manually.
Use Your Carrier's App:

From the App Store, download your carrier's app.

Purchase a cellular plan via the app.

Again, the best way to set up an eSIM is to check with your provider if and how they support this feature for iPhone Xs, Xs Max, and XR. Going forward, it's expected more providers and devices will enable eSIM to be used to its full potential.

How to Find iCloud ID by IMEI [Free]

How to Find iCloud ID by IMEI [Free]
A lot of people who purchase used iPhone’s encounter the same problem – they can’t gain access to their iCloud account because they have been locked out. If this is the case, you can contact the original owner of the phone. But what if you no longer have the original owner’s contact information? Well, then you need a special iCloud Login Finder to help you find the original owners full information.

In this article, you will find some iCloud login finder online free you need and an ultimate solution to iCloud locked iPhone.

What is IMEI Number

The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a 15-digit unique number assigned to a device that is its identity and this number distinguishes one device from the other. This number has a significant value as with IMEI number you can unlock locked devices, track your lost device and even unlock a second-hand or refurbished phone for which login credentials are unknown.

However, the question remain that is there any reliable iCloud ID Finder by IMEI free?

Part 1. Is There Any iCloud ID Finder by IMEI Free?

Part 2. Unable to Find iCloud ID and Password – Remove it!
Is There Any iCloud ID Finder by IMEI Free?
1. How to find IMEI number of your device

Finding IMEI number for your device depends on various factors such as the model of your device or the make. The most common ways to find the IMEI number of your device are:

On the back of your iPhone

On the sim card tray or

On the inside at the bottom of the phone cover

If you're still unable to locate it then dial *#06# from your phone's dial pad. This is the universal method to find the IMEI number of your device.
2. Can iCloud ID Finder help find iCloud ID?

Apple's iCloud finder service provides users with benefits of accessing their information in case they have lost access to their iCloud account. The service allows retrieving information about the iCloud account by proving that you're the owner of the device. With the help of this tool, you can get information about your phone, account ID, address and secret questions. However, this service does not help in retrieving your iCloud password. Therefore, if you don't have iCloud ID password you cannot unlock iCloud account with iCloud ID finder.
3. Can iCloud ID be retrieved from IMEI number?

Technically, it is impossible to find the iCloud ID from the IMEI number. The IMEI is only the device's identification number and does not store any information about the device. There is no link between the iCloud ID and the IMEI number of the iOS device and IMEI number does not contain or store iCloud ID information.

There are online tools that claim to be iCloud ID finder by IMEI free and claim that they can retrieve the ID however many of these online tools are scams. While it is difficult to find iCloud ID from IMEI number, it still plays a significant role in helping to unlock a locked iOS device.
4. What should yo do to find iCloud ID

Simply visit your Apple ID account page and click "Forgot password". It will then take you to the options to choose to reset your password which could include secret questions or email verification.

So now you should got the answer about the iCloud ID finder by IMEI free.

Fix ‘iPhone Keeps Turning On and Off’

Fix ‘iPhone Keeps Turning On and Off’

That iPhone keeps turning on and off is one of the most frustrating things you may experience as an iOS user. An iPhone reboot loop can be caused by different reasons, and if you are getting frustrated or worried about this, you really do not have to. If you are encountering this issue presently, you are lucky enough to be reading this article. You can solve this problem through different methods, and we will check out those methods right here, in this article.

Part 1. Why Does iPhone Keep Restarting

When you turn on your iPhone, it displays the Apple logo, and instead of booting the phone normally, the phone goes off and displays the Apple logo all over again. This could be due to many reasons, and it is vital for you to know what the reasons could be.
Failed Update

This is one of the most common reasons why your iPhone keeps turning off and on. If you recently attempted to update your iPhone to the new iOS 12 and the process stopped halfway or the update failed, it could result in the problem of iPhone turning off and back on repeatedly.
Attack from Malware

This hardly happens with a normal iPhone except jailbroken ones. Jailbroken iPhone can install apps from other sources thereby making the device vulnerable to external security threats like malware.
